i have tried tons of different curlers, and by far Curlformers work the best. easy to put in, just put them in wet hair, and leave them overnight. they are comfortable to sleep in. you can check out the curls my daughter has on my youtube. youtube.com/xxprettyma watch hair video #2. they make gorgeous curls

when you use the curling iron try spraying it with hair spray while your curling the piece. that should help the curl stay.
or mabye you can try to use curlers?

Foam/cloth curlers that you sleep in would work well with your hair. But I would buy two sets of there is just like 10 in a pack since you have really thick hair. I have them but the only problem is that they scrunch your hair way up so if you have short, thick hair, I would NOT use these. Hope this helps!

Well, I don’t know how to make soft spiral curls, but you could try a different method in curling your hair. You can use Herbal Essence’s Hair Gel. After you take a shower, flip your hair over and start scrunching your hair. Most of the time,(I answer these questions a lot), and this method has helped many people. Tell me what you think! (:

Use setting lotion and set your hair with small rollers go under the dryer for about an hour (depending how long the hair is) and done! I’m a hair stylist so I do it often!!! Good luck!

This may sound strange but get your hair wet and use a leave in conditioner, I use Long Term Relationship from Herbal Essences, then depending on how big you want your curls, use either a marker (extra large Sharpie) for big ones and a pencil for small then slide them off the pencil and pin them to your head with bobby pins and blow dry or sleep over night.
There is always the option of buying some of those classic foam rollers (the grandma kind!! just jumbo) and sleep in them overnight on wet hair.
